Peter Anderson - MS Ambassador

"You don't have to have the answers,
so long as you know where to get them."

Extra-ordinarily inspirational is just one way to describe MS Ambassador Peter Anderson. An outstanding attitude to what life has thrown at him and how he deals with the related challenges is simply exceptional.

Peter Anderson - portrait.

Peter's career has been interesting and varied. He has experience in retail, hospitality and technology, as well as a variety of fun jobs, such as karate instructor and roadie for a successful Melbourne Rock'n'Roll Band. He settled into information technology in 1983, working for Government agencies and leading edge companies such as Compaq, IBM, ANZ Bank and Netscape (when they were new and "cool").

A keen contributor, Peter sat on three of Premier Kennetts' Sub Committees. He was an active member of Lions International, including Past President, Zone Chairman and Bulletin Editor (District Award). Father of three children, Peter was also a member of each child's school council (primary and secondary schools).

Following two decades consulting in the Information Technology field, Peter was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis during a chance visit to a medical clinic for a minor unrelated health issue.

Significant and challenging symptoms of fatigue, mobility, vision and pain placed this competent individual in a situation requiring him to withdraw from the workforce, inspite of the fact that his employers were very supportive.

Peter's attitude is: I have MS, but it doesn't have me!

Portrait - Peter Anderson (since becoming a grandad) - circa March 2004.

Today, Peter is "retired" but remains very active at the MS Society Victoria being involved in many volunteer activities, amongst them:

Peter's tip for dealing with an MS Diagnosis is to "Stay busy in mind and body, for it brings positive results". Patience, tolerance, empathy and a longer fuse are just some positive light this articulate gentleman can shine in your direction in the face of enormous adversity.

Some may laugh others may cry but this dynamic individual chooses to laugh while enjoying, as he puts it his "double degree in life" with this no cause no cure diagnosis of progressive MS.

The MS Society of Victoria highly recommends MS Ambassador Peter Anderson as an articulate and motivational speaker who will share with you why it's OK if you don't have all the answers - you just need to know where to get them - it's all in the "approach".
