Strength and determination

Ben Horgan

Ben Horgan was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis in 1973 at the age of 2. The arthritis quickly consumed every joint in his body changing his and his families' lives forever. Not expected to live past the age of 10, Ben's story is one of determination and courage.

Ben has not only enabled himself to survive but he has also helped hundreds of families to live with Juvenile Arthritis. He was instrumental in starting camps for kids with arthritis and has travelled the world inspiring people to make the most out of any situation.

Through his work in raising awareness about arthritis Ben became involved in the media. He fell in love with radio and decided to make this his profession after being selected for the Australian Film Television and Radio School's full time radio course, an honour that only 12 people a year are bestowed. After a successful 5 years in radio around the country, he decided it's now time to put a little back again.

He is also an advocate of "kids helping kids", and spends a lot of time talking to young people with arthritis, motivating and empowering them to help themselves.

Ben is married to Emma and has two sons, Joel (6) and Reece (3).
